Dr. Gurpreet Dhillon is Professor of Information Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University, USA and a Guest Professor at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. About the Author
Heidi Mills is the author of the Heinemann title Learning for Real. She is an endowed professor in the Department of Instruction and Teacher Education at the University of South Carolina. As John C. Hungerpiller Professor, she also serves as the Curriculum, Research, and Development Specialist at the Center for Inquiry (CFI), a university-public school partnership with Richland School District Two. Heidi supports ongoing professional development at CFI by leading weekly curricular conversations and engaging in collaborative research along-side teachers. As one of the founding members of the school, Heidi has been nurturing and investigating literacy and inquiry-based instruction within and across classrooms at CFI for eighteen years. Additionally, Heidi supports the work of classroom teachers across the state and country as a school-based consultant. Heidi and her husband (and CFI faculty member) Tim O'Keefe were named NCTE's 2014 Outstanding Educators in the English Language Arts.

"What's the difference between a fun activity and experiential well-designed learning

Grant Wiggins recently asked the question, "What's the difference between a fun activity and experiential well-designed learning?" It's such a trend to talk about this kind of work -- Tony Wagner, Ken Robinson, Deeper Learning -- but there's never enough specifics to make it happen...easy to talk but who is walking the walk? This book makes me want to visit the author's school, but more importantly, it convinces me that I can make experiential learning happen in my classroom. A field trip to the Museum of Science left my students bored, but if we turn our classroom into a laboratory, well, I know they won't be bored and will hopefully make some important discoveries for themselves.

Technical analysis (or, in laymen's terms, simply "charting") is the study of a security's past price and volume movements in the hope of predicting that security's future price movements. Technical analysis exploits the fact that market psychology influences the price and trading patterns of a security and that these trading patterns are repeated time and time again.

While the existence of repetitive trading patterns and definitive market cycles has been proven in innumerable studies—technical analysis remains somewhat of a mystery for most investors and traders. The issue is that while the vast majority of investors and traders actually do recognize that technical analysis does work, most people in the market do not know how to correctly analyze a chart.

At last count, there were more than 175 recognized technical indicators. Of these 175 indicators, most traders will use a combination of four to ten indicators in order to assist with buy and sell decisions. However, what most traders don't realize is that each individual technical indicator can be set up with potentially twenty (or more) different time periods. Each time the time period is changed, the indicator will produce a different buy or sell signal. So, with just four indicators, we have the potential for eighty different settings. About the Author

Joseph R. Hooper has been a property developer, stockbroker, and bank owner. He is the founder of Compound Stock Earnings and is now a financial educator, radio talk show host, and one of the world's foremost experts on covered calls. In the early 1980s, Hooper formed a bank holding company, purchased banks, directed their operations, and then sold them in the early 1990s. Later, he joined Merrill Lynch as a private client advisor, using his Covered Calls technique for client accounts.

Aaron R. Zalewski has a background in the finance industry, where he worked as an analyst within the investment banking industry. Zalewski left that profession to pursue a career as a full-time investor and is now Director at Compound Stock Earnings. He co-host's Compound Stock Earnings' weekly financial talk-back radio program, Unconventional Wi$dom—The CSE Investment Show, and is coauthor of the book Covered Calls and LEAPS: A Wealth Option.

Edwin L. Useless and misleading

Here is the major problem with this book. It requires you to use the CSE software in order to use the approach touted in the book which means if you are like me and use your brokerages technical analysis software, this book is completely useless to you. What makes this even worst is the author's don't even give you the name of the indicators and parameters so that you could use their approach universally. Instead they attempt to name things like MACD and Stochastics something completely different which gives it the appearance it is some completely new indicator when it is not. If you require the buyer to use specific software, then indicate that in your description. This book was a big disappointment and did not live up to its title at all.

Wiley publishing has an excellent reputation for publishing top-notch technical books. This book will go a long way towards hurting that reputation.
The book appears to be nothing more than a high priced shill for the authors stock recommendation service. Technical indicators are frequently not named, just "L2 is a momentum indicator" without saying which momentum indicator. Even when named, as the 5 moving averages, the parameters are not given. They state "channel lines are mathematically determined" with no definition of how determined.
The book also frequently refers to techniques with no definition provided, such as "V", "TSS", "Hippo", and others. They are meaningless without a definition which apparently is in another book.
The book may be suitable as a partial manual for the web service the authors offer, but is not suitable for anyone else.

Just another "Buy My System" Scam!

This book is no different from those dozens of emails that most traders get every day, promising nirvana IF you just BUY my system/software/mentoring, etc. At least THEY give you the "come on" for FREE! Wiley used to be a reputable publisher...but, apparently, no more.

Amazon should have some kind of filter that separates TRUE "stand-alone' guides from DRECK--like this one---that are useless without buying expensive add-ons.

Not enough details

I was excited about this book especially given all of the positive reviews, but this one is too vague to be taken seriously. I enjoyed Upsizing by the same author because it really shows you how these systems work and how they work together. The Blue Economy does not do that. It consists mostly of lots of ideas and no thoughts on how to implement them. So termite mounds all over the world maintain the same temperature and humidity levels. How? By their geometry. Could we get some more specifics? If the length and shape of the tunnels make the mounds work, why not describe how? It's all well and good to say that we should design houses the way termite mounds are designed so that they don't use any outside energy, but if you don't show us a diagram or a more detailed description then how are we supposed to act on that information? Visual information is severely lacking in this book. The projections about the number of jobs that could be created using these ideas are pie in the sky. Gunther Pauli is a brilliant guy, and his organization, ZERI, does some great stuff, but their main focus seems to be to tantalize the world with their ideas, then charge you lots of money to take their class if you really want any specifics. They hold their cards very close to their chest and are not interested in sharing or helping anyone who really wants to do anything about the climate crisis.

Perspective changing

Gunter Pauli's writing may be a little stilted but there is nothing stilted about the vision on display. Changing business from a pipeline that connects the mine to trash heap demands that we approach business in a different way. Seminal books like Cradle to Cradle and Natural Capitalism introduced us to a new way of thinking, but were short on examples of technology and ideas that would allow us to move quickly to cleaner, more responsible commerce. Gunther Pauli's Blue Economy serves up a veritable banquet of examples. I personally have followed up on several of the products listed in the book for utilization purposes.

Instead of the traditional capitalism - massive, linear, and economy focused, Pauli calls upon the wisdom of biomimicry to design a business and industrial structure that focuses on the interconnectedness of systems, the scope of the business model, and the integral need of the synergies between environment, economy, and society. A must read for anyone who plans on studying business, starting a company, running a company, working for a company, or buying a product produced from a company. Scratch that... you should read this book if you breath air and drink water.

a sad ending to a promising trilogy

I became interested in this series for the idea behind it, a son by Anne Boleyn would have changed so much in history. Alternate history is a particularly favorite subgenre of mine. That combined with the premise promised much. It’s that historical story that I liked the most despite the overabundance of melodrama that emerged as the story progressed. Love for certain characters waned, but interest in the story itself never grew stale.

I love what the author did with the history behind the story. We get some intriguing “what-ifs” on a Boleyn king and how that would have played out. Protestantism was given a clear avenue to progress, the Seymours never rose to such prominence, and new plots/intrigues developed. Real figures were also utilized well. Seeing how everyone’s fate changed with the different circumstances was a key feature to this trilogy. Some fates, however, stayed the same, just arriving at their demise or rise under different circumstances.

It was the real historical figures rather than the fake leads that I felt more connection to. Elizabeth, especially, shined. Seeing how her development was changed or not when she still had a living mother and a Protestant brother to succeed rather than a Catholic sister made for interesting reading. She kept her politically savvy ways yet retained a vulnerability and thirst for love that real life Elizabeth didn’t seem to have.

The two leads, Dom and Minuette, as well as William I was lukewarm on. Dom and Minuette were too perfect, a common failing I’ve come across this year. Utterly loyal, beautiful, and desirable are just some of the descriptors used for these two. The extent that some will go to secure the love and desire of these two almost comes across as disgusting at times. Their only saving grace was how trusting, stupidly at times, these two were. They trusted that everyone was as honorable as they were to their detriment towards the end.

William wasn’t as bad as I could see why he changed and developed given the circumstances. Yet, as one other reviewer put it, it seemed like William just got all of Henry VIII’s bad qualities while Elizabeth got all the good. He got to the point of being a mustache-twirling super villain that read as unbelievable at the end. He got some redemption at the very end, but his journey to that end was filled with too much melodrama.

And that is where this trilogy had its biggest failing. The soap opera quality of the melodrama between characters and in relationships is off the charts. At times, this series read more “Days of our Lives” than a serious alternate history series. That might have been the author’s intention, but it backfired for this reader. I couldn’t empathize enough with the main players in the drama enough to make me appreciate it more. The final book is the worst offender in that everything culminates in a huge melodramatic finale with assume death, blackmail, offended parties, and feely soup.

For what this is, an alternate history exploring the Tudor era, it’s an interesting read. For Elizabeth herself, I’d have kept reading. Seeing her develop was fantastic; there’s a follow-up trilogy detailing her reign and how events of this trilogy impact that. So I’m looking forward to those books. However, this trilogy is a toss-up. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t incredible either. The series ends on a whimper with melodrama drowning out everything else. Don’t know that I’d recommend it particularly, but it’s a great way to kill some time. At least it sets up a fascinating future trilogy.

What an incredible conclusion to one of the best trilogy's that I have read in a long time !! Note to readers: you must read the first two books before reading this one; knowledge of the characters and presumptions is very much assumed. Besides, you're missing out if you don't read "The Boleyn King" and "The Boleyn Deceit."

Quick refresher... Anne Boleyn had a son (after the birth of Elizabeth) and therefore outlived Henry VIII. Henry IX, known as Will by his sisters and friends, is King of England. Laura Andersen doesn't pretend that her novel is anything but a story using historical figures. And that's WHY I love this trilogy as much as I do -- unlike the pretensions of "historical fiction" written by other authors which use the same mechanism of weaving a story out of whole cloth and claiming historical accuracy, this series unapologetically says "what if...?" and makes it work.

Interestingly, Ms. Andersen really makes history work for her characters. There are still the struggles between Catholics and Protestants. Familiar historical people like Phillip of Spain, Mary Tudor and Jane Gray make appearances. But the trilogy is about the King, the Princess of Wales (Elizabeth) and their two lifelong friends, Domenic Courtnay and Minuette Wyatt. The story is a love triangle. It is a story of loyalty. It is a story that, in many ways, makes more sense than what really happened. There is treason and subterfuge, friendship and heartbreak, loss and redemption. And, somehow, when finishing the final chapters, it all made perfect sense.

The writing is masterful. The descriptions of England and France are beautiful. The dialogue is well-written. But most importantly, the characters could have easily been their true historical counterparts (or people like them). The lack of pretense highlights the novel -- if an author isn't making up facts and pretending those facts are true, the story is just that: a TREMENDOUS story. Well done.

I was looking forward to the third and final book in the trilogy about fictional Tudor times, The Boleyn Reckoning by Laura Anderson and I found the book well worth waiting for. It is a what if book, had Anne Boleyn's miscarried son had gone to term, what would have happened to British history. William Tudor, who has taken the title Henry IX is ruler of England and his sister Elizabeth is Prince of Wales--and William and Elizabeth interact with historical characters: Mary Tudor, Lady Jane Grey, Robert Dudley, Philip of Spain----the reader wonders what will happen next. In addition to William the other main protagonists are Dominic Courtney and his wife Minuette (a secret marriage). William wants the secretly married Minuette to be his royal bride which brings about disastrous consequences for the young couple.

William is a fascinating character--his bout with smallpox somehow brought out his dark side. And circumstances regarding his relationship with his best friend Dominic and Minuette, the woman he loves brings about rather dark behavior. There is some violence connected with William's actions and decrees including executions and violence.

The fates of some of the historic characters change radically--perhaps Mary Tudor's fate is the most startling and difficult to believe considering that she was a part of the Habsburg family and a granddaughter of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain and her family would would have moved heaven and earth to protect her--and perhaps smuggle her out of England. It is doubtful that the formidable Mary could not have held her own against a William Tudor . If the writer wanted to keep her from being a threat to Elizabeth's succession--she could have died of natural causes. Lady Jane Grey has a key role in William's life but some of her actions are out of character of how the real Jane would have acted. Another historical person, Mary Stuart is all but minimized.

The outcome of the story of Dominic and Minuette is intriguing and almost until the last chapter the reader wonders what will happen next.

I recommend this trilogy to all readers--you are in for a treat.
