Material is somewhat out of date. This book is appropriate in the sense that it will ask you questions about treatment guidelines for the various mental disorders, however you will find that most of the time it will reference the guidelines published by the APA which are over 5 years old. if one goes to to the APA website they even state on there that due to the age of the recommendations the information is NOT considered current [...]. wrt the aspect of it adapted for the DSM 5 there are just a few questions where they ask nit-picky details about the diagnostic criteria of a few disorders--either ones that have changed slightly from DSM-4 or ones for Dx's that are new to DSM-5...not many questions but some. the last part i found a bit frustrating was that there were a few cases of markedly similar questions--almost repeats. again not many, but some. overall layout is adequate, question difficulty was probably easier than what i saw on the PRITE exam this year.

Good review book

Good questions and good breadth of topics covered. I wish there were more volumes available. The explanations at the back were also good. This at least comes from a reputable source, whereas the subscription service for test review questions online (which I won't name here) would have conflicting answers and points of view... which didn't help my confidence in the exam.

NOT A DSM-5 REVIEW, OTHERWISE GREAT...

This is not a good book for for review of DSM-5: reference to DSM-5 is neglectful, to the point of being irrelevant to completing the questions. This book continues brilliant tradition of other FOCUS editions, when it comes to high yield, relevant, evidence based content.
Since I needed both DSM-5 review and update of general psychiatric knowledge, it worked well for me. If I was after the DSM-5 review only, this book would have been just a loss of time....
